Day 1: Afternoon
For lunch, head to a cozy trattoria in Bellagio’s historic center to savor local specialties like risotto alla Milanese or freshly caught lake fish. Afterward, meander through the village’s cobblestone streets, discovering artisanal shops and historic sites like the San Giacomo Basilica. Be sure to also stop by Tavern Gambrinus Bellagio for an aperitivo, where you can enjoy refreshing spritzes paired with stunning lake views.

Day 1: Evening
Kick off your first evening in Bellagio with a memorable dining experience at Antico Pozzo, a charming restaurant in the heart of town. Start your meal with their exquisite antipasti, such as the tuna tartare with burrata cream and pistachios—a deliciously fresh and flavorful combination. For your main course, savor the delicate tortellini with ham, cream, and mushrooms, perfectly paired with the rich, tender filet steak topped with porcini mushrooms. Finish your meal with a decadent Italian dessert, like tiramisu, as you toast to the beginning of your unforgettable 3-day Lake Como adventure.

Day 2: Exploring Varenna and Villa Monastero
Day 2: Morning
Start day two of your 3-day itinerary for Lake Como with a quick and scenic ferry ride back to Varenna. This charming village, just 15 minutes from Bellagio, offers plenty to explore. Take a leisurely walk along the Passeggiata degli Innamorati (a romantic lakeside pathway) before head to the famous Villa Monastero. Mostly known as the historic lakeside villa renowned for its stunning architecture and botanical gardens. Wander through vibrant gardens filled with exotic plants while admiring views of the lake. It’s a peaceful and photogenic highlight of your day.

Day 2: Afternoon
Return to Bellagio by ferry in the afternoon and treat yourself to some relaxation at Lido di Bellagio, the town’s chic beach club. Lounge on a sunbed with a drink in hand and take in the peaceful lake views—it’s the perfect way to unwind after your journey.

Day 2: Evening
For your second evening, make your way to Barchette Ristoro Forma e Gusto, a cozy spot in Bellagio celebrated for its incredible wood-fired pizzas. While the restaurant is widely known for its pizza, I couldn’t resist trying their Milanese. A perfectly breaded and golden veal cutlet that was absolutely delicious. Start your meal with a plate of their signature cured meats and cheeses, showcasing the region’s finest flavors. Whether you opt for the Milanese, their famous pizza, or one of their handmade pastas, you’ll be treated to authentic Italian cuisine in a welcoming, rustic atmosphere. Pair your meal with a glass of local wine. Finally, end the evening on a sweet note with their must-try tiramisu.

Day 3: Exploring Villa del Balbianello
Day 3: Morning
Your final day of your 3-day itinerary for Lake Como begins with a picturesque trip to one of its most iconic landmarks. Set out to explore the legendary Villa del Balbianello. Fist take a ferry to Lenno and enjoy the peaceful town. To reach the villa you can walk along a scenic 20-minute path or take a water taxi. Most widely known for its amazing views and appearances in movies like Star Wars and Casino Royale. The villa’s gardens and interiors are unforgettable in person. Ever since I first saw these films, visiting this place has been a dream of mine! And it’s every bit as breathtaking in person as it is on screen.

If you’re interested in a guided tour (around €25) it can reveal fascinating history. If you’d like to explore the gardens yourself, entry costs €15 and offers stunning views of Lake Como.

Day 3: Afternoon
For lunch, dine at a charming lakeside restaurant in Lenno, enjoying regional favorites like polenta or lake fish. I chose Albergo Ristorante Plinio, which offered excellent service, stunning views, and perfect appetizers like tomatoes with fresh mozzarella. Afterward, treat yourself to the best gelato in Lake Como at La Fabbrica del Gelato, a must-visit spot for a sweet indulgence by the water.

Return to Bellagio for one last dose of relaxation, strolling through the peaceful streets, which are often quieter as many tourists have returned to the villages where they’re staying. Spend your afternoon soaking up the sun, cooling off with a swim, or sipping a cocktail as you reflect on your time at Lake Como.
Day 3: Evening
As your getaway comes to a close, treat yourself to a fine-dining experience for your last evening in Bellagio. It’s hard not to return to a restaurant like Antico Pozzo, where the incredible menu invites you to try something new each time. Indulge in rich Italian desserts like tiramisu or panna cotta, and toast to the unforgettable memories made on the lake.
Pro Tips for Your 3 Days in Lake Como
Transportation: Take advantage of the train from Milan to Varenna for a smooth and scenic arrival. Pair it with a ferry pass to effortlessly explore Bellagio, Varenna, Lenno, and more. If you’re staying in Bellagio, consider timing your ferry trips early to avoid long queues during busy times.
What to Pack: Bring comfortable shoes for navigating cobblestone streets and exploring villas, swimwear for the Lido or lakeside lounging, and a light jacket for cool evening breezes. Don’t forget sunscreen and a hat for those sunny afternoons by the lake!
Reservations: Book ahead for Villa del Balbianello tours, especially during peak travel seasons. The same goes for popular lakeside restaurants, as tables with the best views fill up quickly.
Timing Your Visits: Plan to explore the major attractions early in the morning or later in the afternoon to enjoy a quieter experience, as mid-day crowds can be significant.
Dining: Many restaurants in Lake Como have limited hours for lunch and dinner, so check opening times and make reservations when possible to avoid disappointment.
Ferry Tips: Familiarize yourself with the ferry schedules in advance, especially if you’re visiting multiple towns in one day. Consider opting for a fast ferry for longer routes to save time.
Local Etiquette: Keep in mind that some churches and historical sites may have dress codes, so pack a scarf or shawl to cover your shoulders when visiting.
