Getting There Is Easy and Scenic

Cassis is just 30 minutes by train from Marseille’s Saint-Charles station, making it one of the best day trips in the region. Traveling by train is definitely one of the most affordable and relaxed forms of transportation to Cassis. Allowing you to just kick back and enjoy the scenery.

Once you arrive to Cassis Trian station (Gare De Cassis) it takes about 38 minutes (walking) down to the harbor. Make sure to snag a taxi once you arrive for a quick and smooth transition.

A Harbor That Feels Like a Fairytale

The heart of Cassis is its postcard-perfect harbor, framed by pastel-colored buildings and fishing boats gently bobbing in the water. Stroll along the water, where you’ll find quaint cafés, artisanal shops, and restaurants serving some of the freshest seafood in Provence. The atmosphere here is laid-back and inviting, making it the perfect place to linger and soak up the charm. Plus the water is so blue it’s hard not to sit back and take in the stunning views no matter where you’re at.

Cassis boasts some of the most beautiful beaches along the Côte d’Azur, ideal for those looking to unwind. Plage de la Grande Mer, just steps from the harbor, offers soft sand and calm waters perfect for a refreshing dip. It can get pretty busy here due to its easy access location and heads up there’s nowhere to change. Deciding to not take on the challenge of looking for somewhere to change after a swim, I simply enjoyed the views. The nearby light house located at the end of the harbor offer unobstructed views of the Mediterranean.

Savor the Flavors of Provence

When it comes to dining in Cassis, there’s no shortage of amazing restaurants to choose from. If I had to recommend one, it would be La Poissonnerie Laurent, located right along the harbor. Picture yourself sipping on an Aperol Spritz while savoring their fresh seafood. Especially their salmon tartare with avocado cream and the baked mussels, which were bursting with flavor. With relaxing views of the harbor and a welcoming atmosphere, it’s the perfect spot for a leisurely meal.

For dessert, wander to a local gelato stand or pâtisserie and enjoy a sweet treat as you explore the cobbled streets of the town. Don’t miss the best Gelato in Cassis Snack Les Calanques, offering so many amazing flavors – my favorites were the Strawberry and Raspberry.

Charming Streets and Unique Finds

The streets of Cassis are a treasure trove of Provençal charm. Take a leisurely walk through its narrow lanes lined with vibrant flowers, boutiques, and local markets. Whether you’re searching for handmade ceramics, lavender-scented soaps, or a bottle of locally produced olive oil, you’ll find plenty of unique keepsakes to bring home or gift as souvenirs.

The Calanques Without the Sweat

While the nearby Calanques National Park is known for its scenic hiking trails, you don’t have to lace up your boots to experience its beauty. Take a relaxing boat tour from Cassis’ harbor and glide past the dramatic limestone cliffs, hidden coves, and turquoise waters. It’s the easiest way to soak in the stunning natural landscapes that make this region so special.

The colorful harbor, the serene beaches, and the delicious seafood will linger in your mind like a Pinterest board come to life. It’s hard to leave Cassis, but the memories of its charm and beauty will stay with you long after you’ve returned to Marseille.
