Starting Your Day Trip From Barcelona
This city is just a short bullet train ride from Barcelona and in less than an hour you’ll be exploring this incredible town. There are many ways to get to Girona, however it is recommended to travel by train as it’s the most direct and most affordable. Arriving To Girona
Stepping off the train, you’re greeted by Girona’s captivating Old Town. Cobblestone streets wind through the heart of the city, leading to the iconic Onyar River lined with colorful houses that seem to leap from a painter’s palette. It was so easy to sit here and simply take in the surroundings because it’s so serene.

What I loved most about Girona is with every turn you feel like you’re transported back into history. The stone walls and cobblestone streets where each turn is a story waiting to be discovered. A famous location most commonly known from tv show Game of Thrones is the Cathedral of Girona. It was like stepping into the epic fantasy world, minus the drama and with a side of historical charm.

Game Of Thrones Cathedral
Visiting the Girona Cathedral is a delightful experience, especially for Game of Thrones fans! This stunning blend of Romanesque, Gothic, and Baroque architecture welcomes you with open arms from one of the highest points in the heart of Girona. As you wander through its impressive façade and explore the breathtaking interior—home to the widest Gothic nave in the world—you’ll feel transported to the world of Westeros. But beyond its cinematic connections, the cathedral offers enchanting views of the city and a sense of history that transports you back in time. It’s a perfect spot to soak in the beauty, charm, and rich stories that make Girona so special.

From tales of its construction over centuries to insights about its role in both history and the iconic TV series, these guides create a rich tapestry of experiences. They can also share personal anecdotes and local legends that add a unique flair to your exploration – which is always my personal favorite when it comes to tours. Engaging with a guide not only enriches your appreciation of the cathedral but also connects you to the vibrant culture of Girona itself, making your visit all the more memorable.

Amazing Foods To Try In Girona
Girona has so many delicious food selections, offering a fusion of traditional and modern cuisine. I personally recommend trying La Brutal. They have one of the best burgers I’ve ever eaten, and you can’t go wrong with a delicious white wine paired with a side of potatoes. But there are endless possibilities when it comes to delicious foods here. When in Spain…don’t forget to indulge in many tapas (small appetizers) throughout your culinary experience – its’ what makes Spain so special.

Heading Back To Barcelona
As the day winds down, board the train back to Barcelona, carrying with you the echoes of history and the flavors of Catalonia. Girona, with its timeless allure, proves that a day trip can be more than just a journey; it can be a curated adventure through the heart of Spanish culture.
